About the Founder

Sustainability Help is led by Dale Martin, an experienced sustainability practitioner and governance professional with a background spanning operational delivery, public policy, and system‑level change.

Dale was formerly Sustainability Manager at Geelong Grammar School, where he led whole‑of‑organisation sustainability initiatives across operations, culture, and education. This work contributed to the school being named a finalist in the 2023 Victorian ResourceSmart Schools Awards for Emerging School of the Year and Environment Action Team of the Year. In 2022, the school was also recognised by the Victorian School Garden Program for Best School Garden Exhibiting Biodiversity.

Dale has also contributed to sustainability action at a broader systems level. He authored the Local Government Climate Emergency Toolkit, a practical resource designed to support councils in responding to the climate emergency and translating declarations into action. The toolkit has been downloaded over 10,000 times across Australia and internationally, and is widely used within the local government sector.

Dale also brings deep experience in policy change and public decision‑making. He was a co‑founder of the Plastic Bag Free Victoria campaign, which played a key role in building public and political momentum that ultimately led to the banning of single‑use lightweight plastic bags in Victoria.

From 2016 to 2020, Dale served as an elected City Councillor at Merri‑bek City Council, where he moved dozens of motions focused on sustainability, governance reform, and community advocacy.

His academic and professional qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Economics and Finance

  • Master’s degree in Energy Systems

  • Lead Auditor – ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems)

  • Graduate, Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD)

This combination of economic, energy, governance, and operational sustainability experience underpins Sustainability Help’s practical, credible approach grounded in real‑world constraints and informed decision‑making.

Standards, Frameworks, and Alignment

Our work aligns strongly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and with IFRS S1 and IFRS S2, developed by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).

We help organisations make sense of these frameworks and translate them into practical processes, targets, and strategies that are proportionate, defensible, and useful — not burdensome.

Support may include mentoring staff, recommending fit‑for‑purpose processes and procedures, acting as a quiet advisory or review partner, or helping organisations grow their impact while meeting regulatory, stakeholder, and governance expectations.
